We call ours firefighters, chair person, mail carriers and human is just what we are. What about woMEN or woMAN? They have men and man in them. Most of these jobs were once held by just men. It's just been since women's rights came about that this has changed.

I think it has more to do with "mankind" than with gender in particular. Since everyone is so politically correct these days, a lot of people have changed how they refer to these jobs, such as: chairperson, firefighter, police officer, etc., but I have yet to hear someone say hu-person or hu-individual. As for me, I don't mind being considered part of mankind. In Genesis it refers to God creating man and then woman. We were named such because we came from man. This was just to distinquish the genders, not to create a division of the two. After all, we were put here as helpmates for man. We are supposed to work as teams.

Same reason why man is man and woman is man with 'wo' in front. Because 'man' is actually a nick-name for human or homo-sapian.

they don't call them that anymore. It's Mail Carrier, Fire Fighter, Chairperson, and Police officer. In my University you get it trouble for not using the gender neutral forms.
