how long have you had it? are there any dents in the back? well ipod nanos like, break if they get dents in the right place. so go to apple and they'll replace it for you if your warranty is still valid

I would suggest reseting it.

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

I know another person said this but..I have a source with complete info.

EDIT:
I would strongly diagree against letting the battery die because one time the battery was very low before I charged it this is what happend. It took like 10 minutes before it could establish the connection. I believe the iPod needs some, not a lot, to establish the connection to your computer. If you have an iPod working properly, it should shut off leaving just enough to connect. I know this because I turned on, when it was low battery , and it gave me the message not to turn back on and that it was too low.
But I do not think a frozen iPod will process information and tell itself to save some power and shut off asap.
This is my understanding, I have no idea how the first replier was able to do this.

Hope this helps.

If you didn't charge for 4 hours before you used it then you need to get a new battery. Some advice to all: Charge your Ipod For at lest 4 hours when you get it, before using it.

Try holding the center button and Menu at the same time for about 10 seconds and it should restart but if it doesn't, go to your local Apple store and they can help you.

Good Luck

I think those things are all sealed at the factory, so there is no repairing them. I guess you have to get a new one.
