I have had 3 miscarriages in the span of about a year. I have been over weight my entire life. After researching frequent miscarriage I noticed that a thyroid disorder could be the cause. I have all the symptoms listed for Hypothyoidism. The OB doctor keeps insisting it is just a freak thing that is happening for no apparent reason. What do you think?

The mechanisms of miscarriage are not fully understood, but I think you should seek out a second opinion, to at least determine if this line of approach is valid.

It could be a possible reason. I had a friend who is hypothyroid. She was pregnant over a year and miscarried because of her thyroid levels. She tried getting pregnant again and conceived. This time she had her thyroid levels drawn every 6 weeks during the pregnancy and maintained under a 2.0 TSH. She had a 7 pound baby girl just a couple of weeks ago.

Get a test, but make sure its a morning test because TSH changes throughout the day. I'd ask for a free t4, free t3, and an antibody test too. Sometimes it will show in the other tests before the TSH.

yes it could be. The thyroid gland controles hormonal balance, as well as being in charge of a lot of bodily processes, from temperature regulationg to a lot other. You should go and have a blood test panel to know exactly what your TSH levels are and work your way from there. Being pregnant with an underactive thyroid can bring a lot of complications and even put the baby's life and well-being in danger.

definitely tell your doc to take a blood test to test the thyroid. during my pregnancy, i had high blood pressure, a fast heart rate, and my breathing was bad. they diagnosed me wit preeclampsia, but after giving birth, i still had those problems. after being hospitalized, they took out blood, and tested the thyroid and i was extremely hyperthyroid (graves disease). I could of had a miscarriage or could of passed down the disease to my son. not one doc tested me for it. i had to ask because both my grandma and mother are hyperthyroid. hypothyoidism could be the cause of the miscarriages. tell your doc to test you or to give you a referral to a specialist to make sure. i rather no for sure. good luck.
