okay, so we have internet in my house, and its broadband yeah.
and the internet works fine on the host computor
but my laptop is supposed to connect to it wirelessly
and basically when i go on it, it connects for like 3 seconds to someone elses broadband
and it says the connection is 'very weak' and i cant actualy use the internet from it
but then it disconnects, and it wont connect to the right broadband, even if it is right next to the host computor.
and i cant take it into like a shop or anything, coz my laptop isnt realy 100%legal...
were not realy sure about it, my dad got it for me in thailand, i think it just has an illegal copy of windows.
but the internet used to work fine on it.
oh yeah, also, when i plug in into the thing next to the computor it works fine.
and ive treid using a different (i dont know what its called, that thing i have to plug into the usb port to connect to the internet) but that doesnt work either.

You don't specifically state that you have a wireless router. Perhaps a silly question, but your router is wireless, isn't it? (It MUST be a wireless router for you to connect wirelessly).

If it is, when on the laptop and opening up the wireless networks, can you see your network? If not, maybe your network isn't broadcasting the SSID. In that case, the only way for the laptop to see the connection is to 1) enter all of the connection data manually or 2) turn on the SSID broadcast on your router so the laptop can find it.

What about the security settings? If your wireless router is set up for security, then your laptop must also know the correct key in order to join the network.

There are also other things to check like MAC filtering. If that's enabled, then the MAC address of the laptop needs to be added to the router's MAC filter table.

Refer to the manual for the router (or the manufacturer's web site) for more information.
