Yao Ming is more known all over the world; Shaq is more popular in the states.

Yao is still considered a relatively new dominant player in the league while Shaq has been considered one of the best players maybe ever for a very long time. He has won multiple championships with the Lakers and one with the Heat. But Yao's career is still new and if his plays keeps becoming better he could overtake Shaq.

the question is who is more famous....Yao is from China they have double the people we have over here and Yao gets more votes for the all-star game than anyone. Shaq is a way better player than Yao but he isn't more Famous.

Right now, I would go for Yao Ming.
Shaq's time has already peaked, while Yao's time is still peaking. Consider also the fact that Yao is hometown hero to China and the Chinese which probably holds the most number of population in the whole world.

would have to say Yao on this one, the reason being...Shaq is well known in America, but not to the non sports following world...true he has a level of celebrity...therefore a following...that being said...Yao is a hero to a whole country( unlike Shaq who is liked by only a percentage of sport following fans here in America)...he is one of few Chinese that have made it in any American professional sport...there are a lot of asian fans of yao worldwide...while millions of people in China think of him as their hero, they only know that Shaq is just someone he plays against...also a very large contingent of asians stateside follow Yao...

Assuming all people watch B-ball, then:
Population of Amercians/Canadians = 330 million
Population of China: = 1600 million (1.6 billion)
1600/330 = approx. 5 times
Thus, Yao is more proportionally popular than Shaq when no intangibles are considered.

you need to take both one in each of them on. Run between Yao's legs and hop over Shaq for the 360 windmill jam. of route then Shaq would step on you yet your bones will heal, their pride will be perpetually damaged although.
