Ok, first off...Auto Electrical 101....the vehicle Does NOT runn off the batteries while running, it runs off the alternator, so pulling the positive cable will do...umm...nothing, thats actually a quick test for your alternator. Anyway, yes to shut the vehicle of, Lance R is right, kill it with the tranny, and then try to start it again, if it contienues to do the same, take it to a trusted shop to have it inspected, but my first guess is the ignition switch.

It could be the linkage on the tranny, could be the ignition switch or could be in the steering collum. Do you have a remote starter? I had on my truck and when you would slam the door the truck would start.......

Possibly the ignition switch. Just put it in 1st & pop the clutch while holding the brake, it will die.

If you want to know how to shut it off, pull the positive battery cable. If you want to know why it isn't shutting off, I have no idea.
