28/2 = 14
14/2 = 7
7 is prime
So 56 = 2³ * 7
Similarly 84 = 2²*3*7
Looking for the largest product common to both
numbers, we see that the HCF of 56 and 84
is 2²*7 or 28.

So the highest common factor is 4 times 7 =28
