You're probably applying your eyeliner "naked" -- you may have moist skin around the eye area, and it's very likely to smear if it has nothing to stick to. Dust your eyelids with a powder before applying your eyeliner. Afterwards, trace over the line with a powder eyeshadow in a matching color of the liner.

1. Your eyeliner is of bad quality.
2. You're putting on too much, and in the WRONG place.
3. There's more than one way to apply eyeliner.

MAC's eyeliner smears a lot from what I've seen. The creamier, the more it smears. UNLESS you get the waterproof, non-smudge one. I'm sure any waterproof or non-smudge eyeliner will work.

first of all you should get a good non-smudging brand and this is what i do: in the morning when i do my eye liner i put it on thoroughly and not perfect then i apply my mascara and the rest then i go back to my eye liner with a cotton swab with a tiny bit of soap & water on the end and go along my eye liner edge and make my eye liner perfect, and thinner, then once you've evened out the line[or until satisfied] go along the edges with the dry side.. it helps me for atleast 6 hrs. but, nothings gaurenteed, things work for dif ppl. good luck!

this actually happened to me the other day! i was careless and did not make sure that my lower lash area was completely dry. so before lunch it was already smearing! sometimes you can pat a little bit of concealer before the eyeliner to reduce smearing.

what you are doing wrong is that you have to make sure your skin is totally dry. and don't go near water
