It depends on the type of goldfish, fancies can grow 8-12 inches and single tailed goldfish can grow 12-18 inches. And unlike what many people think goldfish do not grow to the size of their environment, they can however become stunted if they are kept in something too small but if kept in a proper size tank or pond they should actually reach their maximum size.

The average size of most fancy goldfish is around 6-8 inches. Pearlscales are the exception to this fancy rule and can grow up to around 14 inches. Slim-bodied goldfish can grow to an average of 12-18 inches, but in the right conditions, could grow to 24 inches. Then of course there are world record holders, like Bruce the Giant Oranda, who break all these rules.

No, they do not grow to the size of the tank they are in. Sometimes they do, but that means they are STUNTED, which can kill them.
Fancies: 8-12 in.
Regulars: 12-21 in.
