There is a growing theory that light as we now it isn't really what we have always thought. It goes like this. When you flip the switch on the wall you are actually energizing the "Dark Absorber" that sucks the dark out of a room. Shadows are just where the dark absorber can't quit reach. The sun is the ultimate dark absorber and you can feel the dark leave at a magnificent speed creating heat. All that stuff under the bed and on the shelves is "Dead Dark".
