I am a journalist in the same county as the college these kids came from and yesterday was a media frenzy on campus. Not only was I covering the story along with other local media, but media outlets from Columbus, Toledo and as far away as Cleveland were all there. It would have been easier on the community now in mourning if it had only been a local story, so do you think it warrented national attention?

I live in Toledo and I was glad that we had the information we had. Granted, it is a tragedy that affected the Bluffton campus dramatically, however, there were kids on that bus from our area as well. Not Toledo, but Maumee and Springfield. And Bluffton is only about an hour away from here, so it's not like someone from New York City was there reporting on it. I feel it's something that affected the areas that you listed. The kids weren't all directly from Bluffton, Ohio, and the family and friends of these kids deserve to know what is going on with them when a tragedy like that occurs.

Normally, I wouldn't think so. Then you would have to ask if the Columbine story should have been national. It's hard to say. I think when the media decides to make these stories national or release them through the AP wire, it may be because these people could possible have family elsewhere in the country, and this is one way of letting the family know something has happened. Otherwise, it would be a phone call, possibly days later.

Yes. I think it warrants national attention. Wouldn't those kids, the school and the community feel neglected if no one cared about their tragedy. I think this sad event should be covered with the up most respect though.

I am in Canada and the story is on a lot of stations...American and Canadian. I am not sure if it has gone beyond our two countries or not.
So tragic. Young people lost lives. But it was not God's fault like a lot of people claim. He does not cause bad things to happen, but he simply allows them to happen. Unforseen events befall all of us. A hope for the resurrection is for these people and I hope their family yakes comfort in knowing that.

It was a story of national interest. It is sad that your little town was overrun with media. Sorry for your loss.
