I will be researching & Investigating such sources through the BBB, Consumer Affairs, and other areas to make sure this firm & Agent is legit and operating in a legal manner. No Scams, or you will be reported.

Unfortunately, you did not mention anything about the type of writing that you are looking to have represented. Different agencies and publishing houses specialize in different genres of writing. You should look for people that represent similar books to what you have written-- this way, they will know how to best market it!

I would suggest starting with the latest copies of Writer's Market and the Guide to Literary Agents. I know that my public library has copies of them as well, if you are not interested in purchasing them.

http://www.writersmarket.com/ has a searchable database of the listings found in their books, as well as an online store where you can take a look at all their different options.

http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors/ is a great way to do your research as well, as it is a quick reference to avoid scams of any sort that a writer might encounter.

Happy writing!

in case you have an agent which you have been with for some years then it incredibly is the a million individual you're able to ask, no longer us who're a million) no longer in publishing and a couple of) do no longer understand the agent/editor courting like an agent does. Your agent could be advising you - in case you have one. Now, once you're questioning if your agent is being honest in asserting that she has to tell publishers this and you prefer to appreciate from different brokers if it fairly is authentic then ask different brokers. there are various on twitter who answer questions from writers. Logically, i'd think of it incredibly is the writer's applicable to appreciate how your sales have been for the authentic reason you have stated - they could make a organisation determination on no count if to proceed to pay you for books that they understand won't sale. they might take you decrease than a pen call and pay you a decrease improve than the final e book or it would desire to be the top of your traditionally printed occupation, wherein case, you could constantly self-post. i'm incredibly beneficial the writer will prefer to appreciate this and in case you or the agent misinform the writer or do no longer tell them then the agent hazards dropping that courting with the writer and you will no longer get any destiny publishing deals with the writer because of the fact of it. Lose-lose for you the two once you lie, and a sound agent ain't going to possibility that for an author with a bad sales record. One final difficulty, there would be something inserted on your publishing settlement which will make you and your agent demonstrate all previous sales numbers and books printed. it incredibly is legally binding and in case you misinform them approximately it they might cancel your settlement. My question is: Why are not you asking your agent this??? it fairly is something you shoudl be speaking over including your agent. What if the consensus this is your agent shouldn't tell the writer? Then what? Are you going to make your agent no longer tell the pub? that could be impossible and the agent can't decide for that. Are you going to locate yet another agent? You o.k. would desire to, if your e book is great. good success to you!

Do your own research!

There are thousands of legit publishers and agents, and it depends on your genre, anyway
