This is happening to me. Even though I am a tenured teacher, I have less seniority, and therefore am getting the axe. It sucks, especially since I now have to find a job in an area where there are not a lot of openings for teachers.

Around my area music is being cut out of the school budget. Lots of music teachers are loosing their jobs. Try becoming certified in multiple areas so that if there's a budget cut in one area, your tenure will allow you to continue teaching but in another area.

Move! The beauty about being a teacher in America is that as populations shift from state to state, teachers are needed elsewhere.

I am certified to teach K-6 elementary, 5-9 social studies, and 6-12 English. I have reading, ESOL, and gifted endorsements as well. Plus, I am qualified to be a school administrator if needed.

My certifications are diverse. I work in a k-8 school; thus, there are only a few positions I cannot teach.

Finally, Florida is looking for teachers, but be sure you can afford to live in the district that hires you--it exists.
