From what i understood after watching NGE: End of Evangelion; Shinji got the power of god when he combines with the giant white ghostly Rei thingy and as he always wanted to not be left alone, he eliminated every humans' AT field, making them dissapear (dead). As he wake up later in the LCL sea, he founded that all human on earth had been 'joined' together as LCL. Though this is what he actually want by all humans to be together; he realizes that this is not really what he wanted. He rather got hurt or betrayed rather than not seeing everyone he knew of anymore. Finally, he reversed the effect and there were a saying that "as long as the earth, sun etc. exist and human have the will to live, they will revive back to the world". The scene where he woke up with Asuka besides him shows that human with will to live on will be revived as Asuka was one of those people who had the strongest will to live on (ecspecially her fight scene with the EVA series). So, did i get the ending right?

I'm not sure, since everyone seems to have a different opinion, so your view is as good as mine. And you got the first part wrong; (the rei thingy combined everyones souls, leaving the bodies to turn to LCL, and shinji was last and was allowed to decide what happens). Like Winter said, it depends on if that world was real or not.

Neon Genesis Evangelion was a 1995 anime. That's where it started. After it's 25/26 episodes, you had the End of Evangelion, which was a movie released in 1997. Death and Rebirth was a movie-length retelling of the events of NGE, followed with 30 minutes footage from End of Evangelion. The "Rebuild" of Evangelion is (At least in 1.11 and 2.22) a remasted remake that was seperated into 4 movies: - 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone, a completely remastered and revised version of the first 6 episodes of NGE. - 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance, where most of it is events from the original series until the end where it skews off from NGE. - 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo, where everything you know about Evangelion begins to change. In a good way. - 4.44: Evangelion Final, as the name suggests the final movie in the series and the title yet to be announced.

Well the series ends with a slight psychotic touch but with a more happy ending, I mean at least they lived at that version. But the movie, as already stated by some posters, were meant as the alternate ending.

So in the movie, I think the best way to understand the ending is to contemplate whether the Asuka shown with Shinji is actually the real Asuka. At this point everything is now Shinji's 'wish', and we did see her die afterall. Is Shinji therefor deluding himself again? And if Shinji is deluding himself, then can we say that he has the 'will to live' in the real world? A world made from a wish is not the real world. So maybe shinji is stuck again in a dream world.

But if that was the real Asuka, then maybe he found his way back to the real world and somehow did reverse everything. So in the end the question is was his wish for the real world or for a delusion?
