It's interesting that out of 25 answers so far, not one mentioned poverty. Americans tend to become philanthropic during economic good times.
That doesn't lend much credence to the claim that the economy is booming, as the current administration wants us to believe.

I think all the fiscal issues you mention are the biggest threat to America today. Without a strong economy, a sound dollar, and a balanced federal budget, there will be no America.

The politicians that are selling the country out and trying to pull us into a One world Government. How, by wide open borders, destroying the industrial base, purposely destroying the US currency, constantly trying to disarm the American people while we have terrorist groups ,dangerous foreign drug gangs with automatic weapons and foreign agents running loose

Apathy. We've had several generations that have had things handed to us with little struggle and sacrifice. We're spoiled. Compared to the "greatest generation" of WWII, the Baby Boomers and their children are wimps. We have no real respect for those who went before us.

We don't vote in large numbers, yet we complain. How would any decent person enter politics now in this era of attack politics and financing pressures (the 2008 presidential election is in full swing for money). We don't think for ourselves or question the media. Too many of us rely on our government to fix all our problems.

Basically, we've lost faith in ourselves. We're too accepting of weaknesses - those who fall behind in society are pitied and coddled, when we'd be doing them a favor by helping them get the skills they need to succeed on their own.

In response to "I Hate Liberals #4" I would say they needed to recheck their history books. Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, was president during World War I. Franklin D. Roosevelt, a Democrat, was president during World War II. Harry Truman, a Democrat, took over after Roosevelt died in office during World War II. Truman was also in office during the Korean war, which was fought to a standstill with no actual treaty ever being signed. As far as the war in Vietnam, which I assume is the war that you are referring to that we lost, both Democrats and Republicans were in office.

Although your list holds some definite issues facing this country I would have to say, that is is the politicians with hidden agendas that is it's worst threat.

You left off the most important one: mindless superstition, such as a president who hears voices in his head and calls them God. Got news for you: that's not how you make decisions that could put peoples' very lives at risk.

The federal budget deficit followed closely by dependence on foreign oil.

I believe that the disintegration of American manufacturing and deteriorating infrastructure is an immediate threat that compounds immediate threats in international economic competetiveness which is connected to many of the problems listed above. America must work more efficiently with American made technology and American elbow grease and sweat.

A combination of arrogance and willful ignorance. It contributed to the undoing of all empires that preceded it, and frankly we're following in their footsteps. As for the list you provided, if anyone answers "flag burning" or "the European Union", they'd have to be mind-bogglingly stupid unless of course they were kidding.
