I'm not sure but my mom recently downloaded some anti-spyware software cas she had done a check and d computor was riddled with keystroke spyware (very bad) and others. Now we do checks every so often and theres nothing, so I'ld say ya its useful.
But for an old computor with very little memory just stick with an anti-virus.
