easiest way to determine where he is, is to sprinkle a border of flour around each doorway in the house. If you see hamster foot prints, you know that he crossed into that room. Block off the room and lay down some food and water. If he hasn't escaped outside, he should come eventually for the water/food. You could also put his cage down there, and open in hopes that he will crawl in and go to sleep.

Hamsters generally go down to the ground level of whatever room that they're in. Put his house on the floor with the door open and watch it or maybe put some sort of motion detector that will alert you. I've had them go in and go to sleep in their own bed. Catch 'em alive traps that work for mice would also work for a hammy. Good luck

i was going to suggest that bringing in a cat would be the best way, but that won't work if you actually LIKE the hamster.

try putting his food or special toys somewhere where you can keep watch on it and see if you can trap him that way.

good luck, once when we had a hamster it got loose and made a new home under our dryer, but most likely if it get loose and is not very well tamed it has probably escaped to the outdoors by now........good thing they are so cheap huh?
