No they may not - they are limited to whatever the institution says they may teach and usually (but this is not true of all private institutions) more limited in the range of topics they can discuss. Again this varies greatly from institution to institution.
Federal dollars do not limit what is taught - it usually works in the opposite fashion because public school are required to accept and give more freedom for academics.
Good Luck!!!

In my experience, they can only teach what the private school allows. Not whatever they want, but almost. I know of private schools that don't allow political talk though.

Because they are not state funded, they are at liberty to teach whatever they may choose, assuming they go along with what the school board or administrator says they can teach. That's why, of course, many private schools are religious (i.e. "Town Name" Christian School). As Elana said, also, if they started teaching racism their popularity polls wouldn't be too high.

They can teach what their employers allow them to.
Whomever said they would "lose state funding" is wrong private schools don't get state funding.

education is one which should guide the students and make their knowledge in a successful way.that is the purpose of education. not only trained their knowledge, but also form them more talented ones and skilled ones in all the fields such as computer, science, social studies, moral studies, mathematics and also general knowledge as well as sports.
but according to my opinion these political and religious teachings are meaning less as well as worthless. if we teach them, then it won't guide them in a proper way. so it is better to avoid them. for ur information, i was also a teacher in a private school. but in our school, we hadn't teach them.

They can teach whatever they want to the degree that
their managers/bosses will continue to pay them and
they don't directly incite crimes.
However, they will quickly lose any state funding if they
start teaching racism, for instance.
