Why you left your last job!
They want to know if you were fired, if you quit, if the company you worked for just closed, if they laid you off due to lack of business, if the building burned down, if aliens abducted your boss or what.
They want to know why you are out of work. Or if you happen to still have a job put down presently employed, but looking to further my career elsewhere.

I try to make my answer to that question fitting for the job I'm applying to. Such as: Old job, night shift, new job, office 8-5, I'd say I was looking for employment my suiting my needs with regard to hours so that I can spend time with my family. Use the same principle for "better pay", "Benefits", "learn a new trade".

Now, when you get fired from your previous employer, that's a sticky one...It would be great if you could ignore that question altogether, but it will come up! Best to be tactfully honest. Hopefully the reason was just a rub between you and the boss, you know, a personality issue. It's amazing how many people have had a boss in the past where they've thought, "this person's a freakin' psycho!", so when you are explaining the reason you got fired (again...tactfully!), the interviewer is likely to understand because they've been there too!

If you got canned for some major infraction...stealing, harassing other employees etc, well, I don't have any personal experience in handling that.

Do know that it is illegal for a previous employer to say anything bad against you when called for a reference! Odd, but true. The only way the person calling for a reference can tell if there are any red flags is to ask "would you hire this person again" and the employer can say "no", but no details are to be given.

Good luck with your job search! Be the best you can be, even if you're just applying at McDonalds! Always look for a chance to make yourself better...and learn to use that spell check! Typos on a resume are the kiss of death! :))

Be honest. The will usually want to call previous employers. Usually under your work experience section it asks if they can contact previous employers, if you check no, this raises a red flag.
Even if you were fired from your last job, be honest, many employers understand that just because you were fired, doesn't mean you're a bad employee, but they like to investigate.

I take it by that question that you got fired. So, you can just put that you did not feel that they appreciated the faithful efforts that you put into the job, and hope they dont call and check references.
