Why do they call the World's fair the World's fair. The Series has been around for over 100 years. This is a game we invented and at that point we were the best at it. But the origin of the term is In fact, the postseason series between the AL and NL champs was originally known as the "Championship of the World" or "World's Championship Series." That was shortened through usage to "World's Series" and finally to "World Series."

It was called the World Series when baseball was not popular anywhere but the United States. Now you are right, with great teams from Japan, Korea, Cuba, etc. they should change the name or have a tourney like the World Cup or something. They won't though because of the money involved in the U.S.

Actually, it is called the World Series because when major league baseball first had a championship it was sponsered by The World Times newspaper

The word 'WORLD' is a very lose term. It does not just mean the world the revolves around the earth. eg: you can live in your own little world, or there is a world of ants, so fourth. With that said there is a world of baseball, hence the name World Series.

Do American players grow up wishing and dreaming to play in the Japanese league? I don't think so. Do MLB players dream of, one day, making it to the Korean League? I doubt it. My point is, everyone from around the world strives to one day play in the MLB. "The World Series" wasn't initially meant for this purpose but why change it now that this is reality.

Canada competes in it too.And we will call it the world series if the other countries don't make teams.Also most Americans(don't mean to offend you)are probably somewhat better then Japaneese,European or most other because they are brought up with the game.

That's a totally great question. World addresses the world of baseball not the globe. The Olympics addresses the global world.

The best baseball players in the world play in the MLB, so it does have that right.

Players from around the world play in the MLB. If you are good enough you play in the MLB if you are not you play in other leagues.
