I just got a new Honda Fit and I want to know how many mileage should I drive on the city local roads before it is good for the Fit to run on the highway?

I heard that any cars should run on the highway once in a while for the engine to last longer and better, but not when you just bought a new one.

So how long should I wait?

Whoever told you that is not getting the full story. With a brand new car (less than 500 miles) it's not a good idea to run it at any one speed too long, or floor the gas pedal. But you can go on th ehighway at any time. Just vary the speed a little, and you'll be fine.

Most engines on new cars or bikes are run in at the factory, but it ould be common sense not to over rev an engine anyway anytime. You should take it easy for the first 1000 km's , whereafter some manufacturers retorque the heads.
It is good to run any engine on a long trip and give it a good burst now and then, it does tend to clean out carbon.
Highway milage is always better than stop-start milage, the latter causes much more wear and tear.
Small engines are normally not made to do continious high milage at high speed. but are better suited to town driving.

you don't have to wait at all. All Honda motors are ran at the factory for a "break in" period. As for how to drive it don't hot-rod it. Also don't use the cruise control or keep the rpms at a constant speed because this does not allow the piston rings to seat right.

Have fun! our dealership sells a lot of fits and we have yet to see any problems with them.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'm a 6 year factory Honda tec. I will try and answer all I can.

Highway driving is the best thing for a car because you stay at a constant speed for miles at a time. City driving puts more wear and tear on the car because of all the stop-and-go driving. As long as you don't treat your Fit like it has a V-8 under the hood, you can drive it anywhere you want during the break in period.

after your first oil change, once you get the break-in oil changed you should be able to run it as fast as you want to... just remember to be extremely safe around the big trucks and stay out of their blind spots plz...enjoy your new toy
