basically these players are superstars on big contracts. if u have them and u wanna trade them. ur going to want VERY VERY GOOD players in return if not players on the verge of becomin superstars. unfortunately these so called players are young and on smaller salaries. this means a team will have to give up mitpliple players of this calibre and salary in order to attain one superstar.....trading away ur young for a star may help now....but as a franchise it wont help u succeed in the long run
these players may get traded later on....but be sure...at least one team will be slightly disappointed they didnt get more in return.

The teams that are going nowhere want draft picks. The draft picks on teams that think they can win it all are of little value, and they will not give up anything that will mess with team chemistry. The teams looking at a 5 or 6 seed believe with a star they can win it all. Thus is born the 3 way trade.
The good teams are more interested in stealing a player or that one veteran player who wants a ring or making sure nobody else improves themselves.
Throw in the money factor and it becomes difficult to make the trades.

when it comes to big names in the NBA - it take a lot to make a trade due to the big salaries. If you do trade a big name, you're not gonna get someone as good, plain and simple, because they're picking up their contract (example: Allen Iverson for Andre Miller and Joe Smith). For the Nets, they were gonna trade EITHER Kidd or Carter, but not both. They have too many big names and not enough young prospects. When their contracts run out, they should either let them go or trade for draft picks. The GMs like to keep their big names because that's playin it safe. They're consitant and they're guarenteed to play well. Only problem is - that comes at a price.

Teams in the National Basketball Association are afraid to make the trade, but not for the reason that you may think. Teams are very reluctant to give up any draft picks this year which would almost inevitably be a part of a big name trade. This is one of the deepest draft classes (supposedly) in the last decade. We will see how it pans out.

There is a big star on every team now. we need to think about money, and draft picks.
Money is hard to come by with the Lakers. dishing out Kobe's salary and Odom's is quite expensive. J kidd or VC would make it hard to have money.
Picks are important becasue it is the "best" class in a decade.
