Stay away from anything written by Sylvia Plath. No, I am not being funny. A young friend of mine was given a copy of Plaths poetry by a well meaning person who heard Plaths poetry was popular amongst teenagers. The point being, make sure you know what you are giving someone in that condition.

Gilda Radner wrote a book while she was dying, it is very good and inspirational, not only for your loved one, but also for yourself and others around you.

Don't talk to your dying loved one that much about death.
He (of she) knows very well what is going to happen and he is normally afraid of that.

I believe that instead of giving him quotes and thought of others (even if they are really inspired), open you heart and talk from it. Talk to him about the good times he has lived, make him laugh, show him all the good times he has lived. Assure him that all his loved ones love him so very much and pray for the best. Caress him, let the sun come into his room, play the music he loves.

He already knows very well what is happening. You, you have to show him ways to forget it for a while. And that his life has not been in vain.

Open your heart. Trust what your heart has to give him. This is the highest wisdom for our loved ones.

God bless this person.

"On Death and Dying", writen by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross...a little more esoteric would be anything from Sylvia Brown...also, depending on your denomination, a book store specializing in religious material may help. Please accept my condolences and I wish your loved one a peaceful journey.
