New York has recently band use of the N word by anybody. I'm black and I personally do not use it but who am I to say that you can't use it. Being black, if I don't wish to be called that I don't call anyone else that. But is this going to have a snowball effect? Will we soon not be able to curse in public and finally not be able to voice our opinions. What happened to free speech? I feel if you dislike the word and it's meaning, don't use it and tell those around you not to use in reference to you. But I'm not going to tell the whole world they can't use it because I enjoy free speech and don't wish to see it destroyed.

It's just a word. But I like all cultures. It really means nothing to me at all. I do know it hurts the feelings of some so I don't use it. And I avoid those people that constantly keep the racism ball rolling...no matter what side their on. I got better things to do than beetch about race issues...like raising my kids, fishing, hunting, hobbies etc....

I think it is an overused word by blacks, was an overused word by whites and is meant to be demeaning when used by non-blacks. I think the overuse has taken away the power of the word, but the memories of the times when blacks had little to no freedom and were called that word by whites, still remain smoldering in our history. Banning the word will not cause it to be unspoken. It is just a PC move on NY C's part. Until the human race as a whole learns how to respect each individual, the N word by any other name will unfortunately remain, the N word.

I never condoned it's use in any forum. As a black man I have never allowed any person to use that word in my presence regardless of their race. Not even other black people. That word was the last word many of our ancestors heard before being murdered. It should have been abolished from english years ago. These rap artists are responsible also for reinventing it's use and further ignorance regarding it.

i dont like the sound of it and it seems a negative word to me, when a white person says it it is a nasty and evil word

even when black people say it , it seems as if they are saying

" yeah im black and i dont care about the insulting words people can call me it wont hurt me, im proud of it"

good on you!
but i would expect somone to naturaly feel comftorble about what coulour skin they have
it is cringable

i feel embarassed when they say it and it is a stupid

i can say it but you cant , no matter how close you are cos you is white!?!?

my friend once called me a n****r and i am white he is black , what is that all about

i wish it could be wiped from all our vocabularys.

It wasn't used in my household. But it will soon become part of my vocabulary if other state Govs try to force this issue. NO Gov has the right to ban words!

It is a US thing. I have heard it used in normal and cultured conversations in several different parts of the world. The "N"'s in the US decided that it was derogatory because it was a derogatory term used by the "crackers" in the south.
