i know this may sound harsh but don't tell him when your going out, save a certain night for just you and the girls

Just tell him! He is your friend, be honest. If he likes you, well, then you know, but you have to be honest. You need your life, and he needs to know! You will stay friends that way, don't lie or hide it.

I think you should just tell him. He will understand, unless he is actually trying to get with you, and that would also clear that up.
