I'm not looking for the basics here. I'm talking about the comfort items to made you feel special. I'm already planning on body wash, shampoo, conditoner, lip balm, warm fuzzy socks, etc. But what else can you think of that would have been nice to have? This is part of a shower gift for Mom to pack into her hospital bag.

things that i am glad i remembered to take were a face washer as the hospital didnt supply - there was not much time for luxury

someone brought me some chocs - which were nice....

i think a better gift would have been less visitors after having a 24 hour labour stiches and being soooooo tired. Offer to stay in the room with her if she is really tired and let her get a couple of hours sleep. I wanted the baby in the room with me but found that i was so tired and at night you hear every sound they make.

I have always avoided this one just because a can't keep a plant alive to save my life...but I really like the idea...plant some kind of seeds (a hardy plant that will live a really long time) on the day the baby is born so the plant grows with baby and everytime mom looks at it she can remember the day her baby was born....you could let the seeds germinate in the window of her hospital room!!make sure the seedlings are in a box that closes so it isn't too hard to pack in a bag when it is time to leave the hospital. and a robe

The one thing that I wish I'd had was some yummy snacks! The hospital food was awful, and my husband was home at night with my 4 yr old. I was starving in the middle of the night since I was up feeding the baby 24/7, and all I could find in the floor fridge were some cold muffins. What I would've given for a couple of those microwave soups or spaghetti o's!

I wish I would have had some magazines or something to read for the time I was waiting and resting. Also snacks, they would not let me eat due to th fact i might throw it up so I was hungry the whole time! A blanket from home, the hospital "blankets" are really still and your would have been alot better! I the hosp. provides a dvd player, maybe a fav. comfort movie for before or after.

I had a wonderful thin terry cloth robe that snapped. I bought it at the trift store for $2 and ended up LOVING it. I was light enough that I was not too hot, double as a bathrobe because it was terry, and snapped so it kept my butt covered while walking, sitting on the birthing ball, and moving around in labor and i did not have to worry about tying it or it slipping open.

Also I had these slippers with rubber souls. They were very soft material and lightwieght, but they have thin non-skid rubber souls. very very comfy.

Also, I took make-up. Just a little bit.....my baby was born at night (8:30pm thank god) so I had all night to sleep before 2 days of visitors. And they all had cameras. I was never so greatful that I had mascara and lip gloss.

And, I had sugar free lollipops to suck on while in labor. they were heaven. the sweet taste was so nice, but they had to be lollipops so there was no choking risk. and they had to be sugar free because the sugar would make me thirstier.

Other than the essentials i brought:
A pretty robe
hair accesories
a small travel makeup
a disposable camera

Just a little sugestion for the essentials, try to find a 2 in 1 shampoo conditioner its less hassle and less to take in. Buy a gentle scentless body wash, i bought a frilly one and couldn't use it cause i had an unplanned c-section.

Family is the best thing. just having that extra support. For me, I'm a single mother. I wish I would have been married so I could have my husband there. Other than that a good oversized robe, a good book, and a camera to make sure you can go back latter and say, "see what you put me through". LOL

When I went into the hospital for my baby I wanted music and my favorit stuffed animal. I felt lonely at night and thats why I wanted my stuffed animal. Yes I know this might sound childish but I was lonely the frist night after I delivered my baby girl even with her in the room. Your going to want the comfert of home to.

I took all three times and glad I did was a back massager, a tennis ball works great too. It helps when the contractions get rough. I had my husband use it on my lower back. That seemed to feel the best. Also hard candies to suck on. Ice chips loose their luster after awhile.

a nice cozy fleece blanket ( for mom) and a really soft squishy pillow, water bottle, some snacks, hard candy, nice comforting music, a nice big towel (hospital towels are so small) silky PJ's, a good book or magazine, a disposable camera, and a little tablet she can right things down on...
