It makes sense, but I think a team that works just as hard against a really good defensive team should get the same amount of points as a team who scores 2 goals against a team on the same level as they are or a team that isn't as good as they are.

Firstly, the 3 points for a win system was introduced for this very reason, to encourage more goals and less teams settling for a draw.
This seems to have had some effect as, if memory serves me right, we get bigger score lines than we had under the two point system.
Lesser teams will always play for a draw when against the likes of Man Utd etc, and they would be thrilled to get it.
The only thing your suggestion would achieve, imho, is a wider gap at the top of the table.

Like in rugby, where they get bonus points? I'm not sure to be honest, could be an idea, but then again the changing of three points for a win is still quite new, well, within the past 20 years. Also, what about brilliant teams in the past (Italy and West Germany) who played from the back with magnificnet results? Also, would just start to record points for the teams witht he best strikers?

No. If teams were going to Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge then realistically they can only play for a draw, or on the counterattack. A lot of people forget that defending is an integral part of the game! The offside was changed to promote attacking play after all. Give defenders and goalkeepers a break!

Defending is a vital part of the game. Just look at the Italian national team...they have made defensive, counter-attacking play into an art form and have won several WC with that style.

If they were doing that over here Manchester United would still be doing OK this season as they have quite a few games finishing with 3 goals plus.

If a team plays defensively, its up to the opposition to break them down....That's the tactical part of the game, where the manager earns his pay. if you watch a small team play defensively against a big team and hold out well, it can be equally good viewing as a 5 nil thrashing!!

I think they will be experimenting with something similar in France soon. Something like extra points if you win by a 3 goal margin or more.

So what about defensive football?
Offensive football isn't necessarily good.
Theres a huge difference between good football and offensive football.
