Yesterday at my appointment, he prescribed me one single dose of Ambien (the sleep medication) he told me to go home and take it and I'll wake up and be surprised. Well nothing happened! He told me that I was going to go into labor this weekend, I wish I would have went into labor! But what happened?

Your doctor can think you're about to go into labor all he wants, but it's not going to happen until your body is ready.

He may have thought that there was a high high risk that you were going into labor in the next few hours or so, and wanted you to get a good nights sleep. Turns out that he was wrong. He hasn't put you or your baby in danger, so I wouldn't be too concerned.

He probably could tell you were anxious to get things moving and thought a good nights sleep would help you to be ready for the work ahead of you... besides, the weekend has just begun! Be patient, that baby will come when it's ready. The less you rush it, the easier it will be for you as your body has had time to gradually get ready for it. All that pelvic pressure is for a reason. It gets everything all loosey goosey down there so that when it comes time to pushing them out, it's easier.... so relax! You're anxious to meet your baby and to get the minor aches and pains to go away now, but if you tolerate them for a bit, your labor and delivery will be much easier! The longer that babies head pushes on your cervix, the more painfree dilation you will have! That's always good, right?

You must not have been ready to go into labor. I am not sure i understand what the connection is. My doctor gave me an ambian to make me calm down and keep from going into preterm labor. If your concerned call him and tell him nothing but a good night sleep happened.

He might have thought that a good night sleep would help you go into labor. I would call him of another doc to see what is up. I do know that alot of sleep dose help with L and D. remember just walk and walk and ooo ya sex may help too. Good Luck!

Maybe he was just letting you get a good night sleep before the baby... You are so close to your due date I'm sure it will be any day now... do some walking, have sex, and just wait the baby will come when your body is ready to handle labor and giving birth... Don't push it!!! it's hard to get the body to do something it isn't ready for.....

Well maybe he thought that you were worrying too much and needed some rest..Because as I know when the baby comes..You can forget about resting..Although they sleep up to 18 hours a day..they can be up all night. So relax..Don't rush the situation. Rest..Rest...Rest...!!!

I am not sure why he gave you a sleeping pill and not sure if it was really healthy for the baby...hmm maybe he thought you needed FULL relaxation to get dialated. Not really sure.

Hon you need to ask your doctor this question.
I once had a doctor that would joke about everything. It was his way to try & make things go smoother.
hat you need to do is ask the question when the doctor is with you.
Answers are part of what they get paid for, it's part of their job.
Good luck & injoy yourself. ~;}
