Thanks to everyone who answered my previous question. My next question is when should we treat all the stable tools and the stable? We treated all the grooming tools and his rug when we washed him. We have put away all but a few brushes until this has cleared up, but do we need to retreate his rug and the brushes we are still using each time we treat the horse?

Yes, keep treating his tools and rugs after use for at least a month after you've treated him.

I've always washed my brushes, blankets, and tack with MTG if I suspect ringworm or any other type of fungus. MTG treats those conditions in horses and will do the same for all things that come into contact with your equine. If MTG isn't available to you- you can use baking soda and vinegar compound, mouthwash or really diluted bleach. Make sure you are rinsing thoroughly and not leaving any soap residue behind.

Even after the ringworm is gone- keep washing tack regularly. You will never know if another horse your equine comes into contact has ringworm and soiled brushes, blankets, and tack will leave fungus building residue on your horse and never get their job done properly.

I would advise that you wash everything, that comes in to contact with the horse, every third day in the first two weeks and then once a week thereafter. Your stable should be pressure hosed with a suitable anti fungal treatment as soon as possible, once a week thereafter, and again when the lesions have cleared. You really should burn any bedding that your horse has used too, though this is not always practical. The spores from ringworm can be a real nuisance to get rid of, and can remain active for up to twelve months. It's hard work, but keeping everything very clean will help prevent another outbreak.
Another tip, put a notice on the horses stable which says "QUARANTINE", to help prevent other horse owners going near the stable and equipment. And don't worry about any grumpy faces from other liveries at the yard, any horse can get it and it's not the end of the world. My youngster caught lice from another horse at our yard and you wouldn't believe the fuss some people made! Just follow your vets advice, and Good luck...

OK just don't panic, its not the end of the world....its only Ringworm........not the plague. most of the time i find that the other horses don't catch it anyway.....if you wash it with a ringworm wash it will be dead in a few days and after 2 weeks you will have forgotton all about it!
