When you say "celebrities" asking questions, how do we know who they are? I thought the whole idea of sites like these were to be able to remain anonymous and thus make remarks without serious recriminations, and in any case, I'm quite sure that the only time we see a "name" on here is because they're paying for it! For that same reason, any "real" celebrity-type questions would only be "sponsored" ones and I doubt if the so-called celeb could give a monkeys' about the "cause" so long as the money's there ! ! !

Well, certainly the way you get to BE a celebrity is by
managing your own PR. Its hard not be cynical.
However, when you've got enough money to reliably
be able to eat, you're also in a better position to
be altruistic. That is, caring for others brings some
meaning to their lives that they don't get from the
shallow lives of Hollywood.
I do not buy the "then they drive off in their
limousines" cynicism, because it is hard to be
that popular and get a message out without
using exclusive transportation.
If they got on the bus, the bus would be flooded
with fans, etc.
Yes, if they wanted to stay home and do nothing,
they could have a very small carbon print, but
presumably they are generating more awareness
by doing what they do, and thereby ultimately
causing more good.
Even if someone is only doing it out cynical
self promotion, that doesn't change the validity
of the message.

I'm sure they care just as much as the next person but the motivation behind posting questions on here would be publicity. I can't really see famous people going "What can I do to help the environment? I know, I'll ask the people on Answers!" And I can't see them sitting down and reading the replies. Maybe I'm cynical too.

no matter how much we may not believe it, celebrities are just ordinary people like us who are concerned with the environment around them. right now, what your saying is that celebrities are super selfish and only care about themselves, so i think you should just think for a second that they are normal.

Apparently Bono was playing in a concert in Glasgow. He asked for the audience to be silent and he started slowly clapping his hands. After a short while he explained that, every time he clapped, a child died in Africa.
A wag from the darkness shouted out: Then stop f**king doing it you tw*t.

I think a few genuinely care; I think the others are out for publicity any way they can get it.

you are not being too negative.... you are being honest.
They are doing it to keep their name in the spotlight. And they want people to think that they really do care. The ones who really care do their work without the spotlight on them.
