For me, it would be the ability to sponsor my husband for immigration to the US.

OK. I know what most of the benefits are. I am just wanting to know which ONE is most important to the answerers!

To middleman below. If you think that we have been able to get around the other benefits, I'd love to hear what you have to say on how I could get my partner here legally to be with me!

To Defendant A --I didn't give you a thumbs down, but I see you got a lot of them. Yes it was a joke, but a slightly offensive one, to a serious question. I can understand the thumbs down!

It would give my partner and I the ability to stay together if one or both of us should need long term care. Currently there's only ONE such Retirement/long term care facility in the entire nation and it only takes private funds or if the couple have long term care insurance. Because gay marriage isn't federally recognized, retiring gay/lesbian couples or those in need of long term care cannot "get around" the Medicare laws involving spousal coverage and care.

Since my girlfriend and I are both over 50, it would allow us to make medical and financial decisions in each others best interests. There would also be tax benefits that married couples are allowed. Mostly it would allow us to been seen just like most of the rest of our friends and family, a married couple. For me, that is everything.

I'd love to have a proper answer to this question. In fact all I can say is that it would mean I'd have the option to marry a man (which I very nearly but just not quite do have, here in the UK).

I am also in a binational relationship, and I live in a country with legal recognition of Gay unions.
The ability to sponsor your partner, is a VERY important one.

For me, it would be sheer delight in the law finally recognizing that love cannot be defined by their personal standards, that it is morally wrong to do so, and that it is unconstitutional (for the US anyway) to prohibit it. I'm not gay, but I think it is a travesty that in this day and age people are STILL being held down by the government.

I agree with the answer you gave your own question, and I can't think of anything that would be a bigger benefit than to be with your husband.
