Some movies are made to tug at our emotions. We become attached to a character and then the character dies. We knew that character, we loved that character, so we cry for that character. A movie that accomplishes this usually is a good movie.

They always die because if you like the character very much than when it dies your much more sad about it .It makes the movie much more sad and since your favorite character is in it say Jim Carry then you'll actually watch the movie it no matter what which means MONEY!

it depends what type of movie...if it happens in Disneyish movies, it means you always like the bad guy (in Disney movies that's always the one who dies), if it's in sad movies, it means you like the main character (that's what makes it sad, that the main one dies), and if it's in other films, you're obviously more attached to secondary characters.

maybe because your favourite characters are the 2nd or 3rd star ,and the film/ TV programme can't kill off the leading star so they kill them instead. or it's just plain coincidence.

Because they have nothing to go back to, they can act all out and make their demise all the more poignant

maybe because you pick characters of little or no importance to the storyline.
