It is an extra $20/night to upgrade to a deluxe room. Is it worth that?

Why upgrade..
You will not spend a lot of time in that room being in Vegas....have fun and enjoy....

More than likely if you check around a little, you could do so much better than the IP. The Imperial Palace has real problems with their elevator systeml. There are times patrons on upper floors have to wait more than 15 minutes for an elevator. If you're determined to stay there, you might ask for a room on a lower floor, so you can more easily walk down if need be.

The IP does have a great location, but there are a lot of other hotels in that area that would be so much nicer for similar $$

The Flamingo would be so much nicer, and is in the same price range. Plus the Flamingo has lots of premium rooms to upgrade to. If you're going during the week when things are slow, the $20 trick works wonders. >When you check in have a $20 barely visible in your hand, ask the clerk if an upgrade is available> he/she will say NO/I can't do that/It will cost you X amount in which case you can pony up the difference>usually much less than if you had booked that room originally. Or he/she will say "let me see what we have" in which case you're in luck> at the end of the trasaction, when he/she hands you the room keys you give him/her the $20 handshake and say thank you very much.

The Flamingo has one of the great pools in Las Vegas.

Yes, upgrades are ususally worth it. I stayed at Caesars and we got an upgraded room but to begin with, they put us in a basic room. Everything was soooo much better in the upgraded room from better and bigger pillows, newer, from a bathtub shower with a curtain to a stand in shower with glass doors. Just check out their web site and compare the 2 rooms or call and ask what the difference is in the 2 rooms. I know people say you don't spend that much time in your room but it is nice to go to a room you feel comfortable in. I watched all those shows on dateline, 20/20,etc. I am very picky now so this is according to taste.
My vote is UPGRADE!!

Their standard rooms are nice, but you don't go to Vegas everyday, so upgrade for the deluxe room.
