There is no such thing as race from an absoulte point of view. What have been called races are simply physical and cultural differences observed in human groups. However, the problem is that most physical traits which are used to define a race are also present in other races. While humans do generally vary physically and genetically across the globe, the average genetic difference between any two humans is infinitesimal. Consequently, race(s) can only be seen as a cultural construct and not as an empirical fact.

I am not really 100% sure but I can tell you why some people's skin are darker than others. A chemical called "melanin" determines what color your skin will be. Its a very neat concept. If someone is naturally of darker skin tone, generally it means they have more meanin in there skin. And obviously- if someone has low levels of melanin, than they will have lighter skin. Melanin also effects hair color as well. (melanin low- blond hair, etc.) Melanin has many purposes but one that is geographically significant is protection from the sun.
Lets say an fair skinned irish man and a african american man were walking on a nude beach on a 95 degree F summer day....who would you hear sizzle first? THE WHITE MAN! tHat is because the african american man has more melonin in his skin and it acts as somewhat of a sun screen.
I dont know if this is help to you but to find out more about melanin, go to this site... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanin

First you have to prove that there are different human races!

Good luck, because the scientific evidence is in, and 'race' isn't real. It is a social construct that has justified racism and mistreatment of others.

There is no biological basis for different races in humans. Race is defined by different things...

There is as much variation between different "races" as there is within one "race". In other words, there is as much variation recorded between black/white/Asian/etc, as there is within only the "black" category.

Race is usually defined by Color of skin, cultural identity, and religious identity, where one resides, where one is indiginous to...

The race concept is screwed up.

Not to mention, the oldest human DNA is found in Africa... In fact the oldest DNA found in Africa belonged to a woman, which is what led National Geographic to call her "eve". Anthropology currently has the theory that human life evolved in Africa... That would pretty much make us all the same race.

When you look at skin tones, it appears that the closer to the equator the darker the skin tone (the more melinin that is present), and points to skin color being an adaptive feature.

Now... to further blow your mind, chimpanzee's & humans share over 98% the same genetic code... Different "races" of humans are differentiated at sharing over 99.98% of the same genetic code...

Scientifically speaking there are seven levels of classification (highest to lowest). For Humans we would see:
Domain: Eukaryota
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum/Division: Chordata
Subphylum/Subdivision: Vertebrata
Class: Mammalia
Subclass: Eurtheria
Order: Primates
Suborder: Haplorrhini
Farmily: Hominidae
Subfamily: Homininae
Genus: Homo
Species: H. sapiens (Homo Sapien).
Subspecies: sapein (Homo Sapien Sapien - Modern Humans)

So to further determine race, would have to be below the lowest division (since we are all homo sapien sapien), it would have to be something lower than a sub-species (subspecies is what divides homo sapien sapien (Modern Humans) from say homo sapien neanderthalensis (Neanderthals).

And finally, pay attention to the classifications offered to you when filling out forms... when they ask that loaded question of "what race are you?" Pay real close attention to the options, because not only is color a consideration, but also cultural identity, regional origin, ancestry identity, etc.

A couple of sites: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race
http://raceandgenomics.ssrc.org/Lewontin/pf/

I hope this helps!

What exactly do you mean by differences? Color? *****? Caucasian? Asian? Customs? All those "differences" are obvious aren't they? Having traveled to different parts of the world I can tell you that deep inside all these "races" are pretty much the same in their wants and desires. From the Eskimo in the north to the tribesmen in South America it's all the same....we all want a happy life.

It is some thing to do with the pineal gland in the brain. Some
medieval texts wrote that the pineal gland is the seat of soul.
Modern medicine says that it control our memory and
knowledge.

The Rig Veda uses the word Varna to classify humans
into four types. The Rig Veda it self says that there are
atleast five meanings to each Sloka.
One interpretation for Varna can be given in terms of
'colour'. The organ of perception of colour is the eye.
The pineal gland in the brain is the third eye.
(B.F.Sergeev, Phisiology for Everyone, Mir Publishers,
Moscow, 1978, page 215). It is the seat of higher
knowledge according to the esoteric teachings of
medieval Europe. The ancient Sanskrit texts on Yoga and
Tantra also say the same thing. Its size among
Austreloids is smallest among humans, it is larger
among Africans, it is still larger among Mongoloids,
ans it is the largest of all among Indo-Europeans.

The pineal gland controls the facial features and general
colour of the skin. The main meaning for Varna is colour.
Can we give a general classification for humans
according to colour?
You must have observed it already. The Europeans are
white, the Chinese are yellow, the Africans are black,
and the Austreloids are mixed colour. That is the
meaning according to colour.

Even though the Africans say that there were some
wise men in the olden days, none of their wisdom
was put to texts. Some texts of ancient wisdom survived
in China. The largest number of such texts survived in
Indo-European lands.

The DNA and the 0.095 % difference in the codes. It is really culture of the races that produce the significant differences.

A real anthropologist like me might say "Nothing significant." If we're talking about the traditional race classification system, that is.

There is one human race. That's not "opinion" or "feel good", that's scientific fact.
