Social Security Death Index but only after 1960 until present and if the social security number is not in use meaning no one is collection benefits from the deceased Illinois has the best death index that I have found so far for anything previous to 1950

if you know the town,city or state which an individual died, records after several? years, are attainable at the State Capital vital systitics/births and deaths. It may cost a fee of ? $10. or you could try the internet. However I don't believe any are free-sorry
