my teen daughter was thinking about a lip piercing until she talked to a piercer she personally knows..and was advised against it..the piercer said quite a few ppl have complained because the ring sometimes actually gets stuck in between their teeth! ouch!

Think hard about it. It's certainly not a good idea if you're going to be looking for work anytime soon. Otherwise it's a fun piercing to have and you'll probably enjoy it while you've got it.

It can make your gums recede, and damage your teeth, but this is a slow process and doesn't happen to everyone.

It can get infected like any piercing, so keep it clean and soak it in salt solution a couple of times a day until it's healed. Certainly don't change the jewellery for some time.

And don't do what I did... wear lipstick on too regular a basis. Getting makeup in a piercing hole is a big no-no, and I got a huge abcess this way. had to have my lip sliced open with a scapel, owch.

Like any piercing they have their risks, but it shouldn't pose too many problems. It would be preferable to get a labret instead of a ring as they don't rattle around and irritate the piercing, and watch it when you eat and brush your teeth and such. Have lots of cold things like ice lollies to ease any discomfort.

As well as the above, a downside is if your a bit of a nibbler you can lose allot of the balls, that close the ring up.

It won't look to good if you have really thin lips.

Can look really hot. [=

Some-one made a comment about high-class people avoiding you but so what! Any way not all 'upper-class' people are pigs who care about appearance. Some are intelligent as well as rich!

As a dental nurse-I wouldnt recommend it at all!!!If you're thinking to have something in long term, you could damage your teeth.A piercing will rub and bang against your teeth when you talk and eat etc, which could lead to wear facets on your teeth-or even breakage. And if you catch it in a towel or something like that,(ouch!!)Have you ever come across anyone who has caught their earring in a towel and it has torn through?......

I would say that the possibility of a gangrenous lip is a bad point indeed.
