I have a 94 GT mustang that I recently had some work done to. I had no problems with the heat gauge before I had some new aluminum head installed. I was wondering if I should install a lower temp thermostat? What are my options? I don't really trust my heat gauge though because when I press the breaks or turn on my headlights, the hand goes up alittle. Another thing is my oil pressure gauge is way up there to the point my dipstick wants to come out. What should I do about this?

there could be a multitude of problems but the cheapest and most common issue should be checked before you waste alot of money when they change head s and other parts there is a reset switch that they sometimes dont reset and that will cause that problem or i could be your thermastat and apparently you have to much oil pressure so its not a wise idea to drive the car till this matter is resolved one of the vacuums or hoses may be kinked clogged or not connected to the right place witch will cause pressure to build cause it has no release put it on a diagnostics machine

the first thing you should do is check both guages by using a set of guages you know are accurate if the guages are fine take the thermostat out and put it in a pan of water and heat it up while checking the temp of the water, if it is a 195 degree thermostat it should open at 195 degrees. if it doesn't open replace the thermostat, but if it opens try a colder thermostat and if that doesn't work it could be your radiator fans, your hoses collapsing or if you've had it overhauled it could have freeze plugs in the water jacket depending on the builder. if it isn't any of that you may need a high performance water pump or radiator. and in the meantime don't run the a/c.

You should quit driving the car regularly and take it back to where you had the work done. Tell them of the problems you have noticed. Too much oil pressure can blow out the oil seals. Too much engine heat can burn it up. Your gauge could be faulty, but that does not do anything to the pressure.

hmmm..could be a LOT of things.they may have used the wrong head gasket, causing a blockage of the oil/water ports. I would take it back to the shop where the work was done and have them check it out.
