There is the Antichrist and False Prophet. Two "Beasts" that
ascend from the Pit. (Lower reality). And do things but not with their own Power.
There is Shaitan, the Adversary. (The Dragon). The Head of the
Powers of Darkness, who gives his Power to others.
But who is Wormwood? The "star", (symbolic of a Higher being).
That pollutes the "waters", (forces of Creation). Genesis 1. And sickens humanity on the spiritul level?

It is probably a meteor, not a person. Meteors are a common destructive omen. Wormwood is a bitter herb (artemisia absinthium) that produces an intoxicating drink, absinthe. In the book of Jeremiah, God punishes the faithless by feeding them wormwood and "water of Gall" (Jer. 9:13-15). There have been some spurious claims that the infamous Ukrainian nuclear station Chernobyl translates as "wormwood". This has led to a great deal of speculation among eschatology conspiracy theorists. In fact the name means "black grass".

I would suggest that the star called Wormwood is simply a metaphor for the wholesale destruction of the world during the End of Days. There will be fire from above and the water will become undrinkable. It is dramatic imagery designed to scare those of wavering faith into mending their ways.

Wormwood
(From Easton's Bible Dictionary)
Heb. la'anah, the Artemisia absinthium of botanists. It is noted for its intense bitterness (Deuteronomy 29:18; Proverbs 5:4; Jeremiah 9:15; Amos 5:7). It is a type of bitterness, affliction, remorse, punitive suffering. In Amos 6:12 this Hebrew word is rendered "hemlock" (RSV, "wormwood"). In the symbolical language of the Apocalypse (Revelation 8:10,11) a star is represented as falling on the waters of the earth, causing the third part of the water to turn wormwood
--------------------------------------------------
a comet falls to earth and it pollutes the waters, which means that drinking water becomes almost nil. which in turn will cause more conflicts in which nations vie for land that contains fresh water.
if you can find writings by Herbert W. Armstrong, esp. his book "The United States & Britian in Prophecy", i strongly recommend reading it.

Wouldn't that be the Devil...? I believe that his name means shining star or lighted something or other.
