Who the hell is your sign harming , tell this bully to f**k off and stand up for yourself. Whats the worst he can do? Maybe he HAS prostitutes in his house that he runs as a brothel and your sign has affected his business. Who KNows?? or maybe he thought you did run a brothel and he's pissed off because you don't. Oh I could go on but the suggestions get more whacky so I shall stop.
One more thing who exactly is this sign offensive to, you are just stating a fact, the same as I could put up a sign outside my house saying " this is not No 10 and mr Blair doesn't live here" , whats the difference apart from you had the balls to write "Brothel" and "Prostitute" in the same sentence....ooooh!

I'd suggest you to take down the sign (heh) or things may blow out of proportion with you and your neighbour.
Just negotiate with your neighbour to ask him to start construction work at 8 or 9am if possible and you will take down the sign.
Work both sides.... your neighbour is probably wanting to finish the heavy work soon as possible and any delay can cause it to take longer to complete.
If he refuses to start working say 8 or 9am rather than 7am then ask your other neighbours to sign a petition. Maybe your other neighbours are just as fed up with the noise starting so early but then half of them probably have gone to work by then.
If things turn nasty with your neighbour... don't do anything just let him do the nastiness then report him to the police for assultm, abuse etc.
Here's a link to the Home Office on Ant-social behavour and there you can find a PDF file on The Respect Action Plan (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/documents/respect-action-plan)
Hope this helps.

It totally depends on the context of why you put the sign up. If you were just messing around having a laugh then take it down as it may be offending your neighbour.
If there is a genuine reason, then communicate with your neighbour. Talk to him or pop a not through his door. Tell him that it is temporary for x amount of days and that you will take it down.

DON'T LET IT STRESS YOU! If you want it up leave it up, by the sounds of it it was only going to be temporary anyway. I can see why the neighbour could be upset IF it was going to be up on display forever. He obviously has no sense of humour and an anger problem! Life is too short, have a laugh at the neighbour with your mates ( behind closed doors), take it down and don't go head first to all out war its not worth it!
I would replace it a with
' No big aggressive, sense of humourless, ugly blokes allowed '
Good Luck

How would you feel if the neighbors out up a sign on their door saying you were lying and the prostitutes really lived there? Why are you causing problems where there weren't any in the first place, just to be cute?
Told someone on yahoo Answers the other day that if there weren't religions to divide us, we would invent something else. Seems I was right.
Take down the blooming sign. You have had your fun.

Standing up for your rights is all fine and good, but a joke is just a joke. If people aren't finding it funny, how good of a joke is it? I would take the sign down, but it all depends on the statement you want to make. You could always put another funny sign up. I don't necessarily consider it compromising so much as improving your act :)

Well, I think you should remove it... May be he is an old man. And you know, old people don’t like those things. In my opinion, it is not proper to put something like this at your door. Ok, you see it funny. But, if it annoys your neighbours you should remove it. Also, I see from your name that you are a muslim. So, don’t you remember that prophet Muhammad ( PBUH) ordered us to treat our neighbours well. And he said that those who believe in Allah and the last day ( the judgement day) should be good and generous to their neighbours’, no matter their neighbours’ religions or beliefs are.
In my opinion, you should get rid of the sign at your door.
Peace be with you...

You have your rights as well. You have stood up to him by not taking the sign down as he ordered. To avoid a conflict with the neighbor take the sign down after about 2 days after he talked to you. This way you save face by not bowing to him and he saves face by getting what he wanted.

You could put up this sign:
"This is not a brothel, no prostitutes here, but we can not speak for any others round here!"
That ought to get them cracking!
Seriously if it bothers them that much I would prolly consider taking it down.
