Hell no. Idiot white skinned liberals - crippled under the burden of tons of misplaced white guilt - were happy to protest against the so-called evils of the 'colonial powers' and white skinned people in general, decrying the state of poor Africans under the yolk of these villains.
Now that South Africa has devolved into a crime and AIDS ridden nightmare, we don't hear a peep from these morons, except to blame Africa's failings on the past, which the present South African government is happy to do whilst they loot the country, leaving the black population worse off than they were under apartheid.
A great portion of the blame for the tragedy that is the 'New South Africa' can be placed at the feet of meddling idiots that had nothing to lose themselves.

Arcadia - I was born and raised in what used to be South Africa. I know a little more about it than you do, sonny.

Arcadia - you're obviously new to this forum, kid, so I'll cut you some slack, but I don't need to declare anything.
By the way, whites no longer own their businesses anymore, thanks to South Africa's racist BEE and Affirmative Action laws.
I'm not sure whether you need glasses or are just so stupid that you see what you want to see, but nowhere in my question did I say anything about approving of the apartheid regime. I mean, who could?
The sad irony, though, is that blacks were actually better off under white rule than they are under the out of control violence that has been visited on them under the ANC.

mapompana - the crime wave ie; the murder, baby rape, theft, rape etc... affects blacks more than whites. The ANC does nothing about it. The millions that have dropped dead from AIDS and the millions more that are HIV positive are predominantly black. The withchdoctor in charge of your country's health prescribes garlic and beetroot and your so-called president denies that HIV is the genesis of AIDS.
The majority of blacks still live in squalor, whilst Mbeki spends millions on himself and black cronies overseas.
Your cities are in disrepair and are now a hunting ground for Mandela's graduates of his school of making the country ungovernable during the 70's and 80's.
The majority of victims are black and you've all been told to leave the country if you don't like the crime.

Yes, I can see how much better off you are now.
P.S. There's no way in hell you could kick my a*s. I'd eat you up for lunch.

DolphinLami - ah, the predictable excuse ie; apartheid lasted X amount of years, so don't expect miracles in Y amount of years.
In 13 years, there has been no move forward, only a steady degeneration. Once we get to the 48 year mark, and South Africa is REALLY fuc*ed up (look at every other African country), what will be the excuse then?

Not in the West - they are in denial. South Africa was to be the African diamond that would be the first success on the Continent thus absolving themselves of all the pent up White guilt. Now that the reality is hitting home they are either in hiding or offering some weak excuses and still in love with "the legacy of Apartheid." There are signs however that the landscape is changing with both the BBC and Sky News doing programmes on the violent crime. Over the weekend I listened to a couple of White ex Zimbabweans and Authors being interviewed on the state of Zimbabwe on Sky TV. In closing the interviewer asked if they thought South Africa would go the same way. With a wry smile the response was very diplomatic in that South Africa was " in a transitional period and it could go either way" but the body language gave a completely different answer. South Africa's biggest enemy ,apart from the ANC, is the gullible White Libbys still resident there who still believe that the future is rosy. Easy to say that when the kids and your money is safely stashed overseas and you can leave at the drop of a hat but there are millions who cannot. It is them and there kids who will suffer the most at the hands of the neo Communist savages.

blah, blah, blah, bloody blah....
Proud, i agree with the rest of what you say, especially the last bit.
Brad, Brad, Brad...always bitter as always. DolphinLami, i do agree with your statement. But to any South African here, across the race border, do we realise we're at each others throats over comments of people like Brad who aren't in RSA forst of all, nor care about it coz they have new live's in New York. Whilst we remain here and allow them to stir up sh!t between us and sit back and watch us bicker and fight. Only fueling his interest in seeing people turn against each other. We dont need that, f*ck this race and apartheid card and what happened or didnt happen, its becoming a bore. This is a crucial time where all of us being somehow affected by what is the current, should actually stop supporting the self rightious ego's of outsiders and make something of RSA. Yes we have problems, but its not a single race going through that, everyone...and what does promising each other an "@ss whipping" say or do for us, huh?! Nothing, except give brad more amo to fire us down as a country and slander us beyond reason and what is real...white skinned liberals were fighting for a country passionate as they were. And you know what? They need not feel guilty about anything, they played their role when and where it was needed (and won)... This is a different battle now, that shouldnt even be about race! Its a country... not a race. And the struggle is of bringing some kind of peace/order to this disrupted country... thank you

Brad do u really enjoy upsetting the South Africans. I suppose when you are living in the jungle of crime and corruption a person tends to become hardened to it. We all know that the crime is out of control and the corruption that is just a laugh a minute. It is sad that we blame the apartheid years for all the wrong that is happening in South Africa today. But i suppose its an easy escape. I will be honest now if my son once he has got his degree wants to leave South Africa i will not blame him. As we have paid every last cent of his university fees he does not owe anyone anything. Of course if South Africa wants to keep his expertise they will have to employ a white 24 year old male.

I agree with Dophinlami's answer.

Who are you to say that black people were better off under apartheid ? Have you ever been black ? I am a Indian and I am better off under the new South African government. I will take the liberty to assume that you can be categorized as" young and dumb"...simply since anyone who lived through an era of racial discrimination especially to the degree South Africa has would not dare make such ignorant and outrageous comments. The other label that would be befitting of someone of your stature would be RACIST...since you obviously believe that the mental, physical and emotional torture that the apartheid government inflicted upon millions of people of colour was "so-called"...as a matter of fact it's a fact (dumbass)...did you know that South Africa was subject to international sanctions for years...if the entire world can face up to it, for the life of me i can't understand why racist South Africans...sorry dumb.. can't digest that tiny piece knowledge.

No, they are proud of what they stand for and will continue doing so. Dude, why so much hate in you? Apartheid lasted officially from 1948 to 1994. The ANC government has been in power for only 13, and you are already crying foul. Hard to face the turn of the tide huh? It doesn't have to be like that. All you have to do, is hang in there like all the blacks, coloureds and Indians for over 46 years.

What white liberals lets talk about our corrupt goverment, the ruling party (ANC) lack of the death penalty. It was whites who got this country up to where it was only the present goverment is destroying it while they line their own pockets, never mind the masses. Our judicial system is a joke.

Blacks have never been as well off as they are now.

Yes there are bad apples on both sides.

What about reverse racism now, the crime rate totally out of contro, violence against women and children, how can this be resolved when the BLACK goverment will not acknowlede that there is a problem.

There are many whites who care for and love South Africa. By the way I am not a racist.

If you knew much about, or had visited, SA then you'd already be aware that its the whites who still own all the major business and have all the money. So in that respect nothing much has changed.

But I have to ask this obvious question...how was a regime that denied the right to vote to 90% of its nation's population in ANY way worthy of anyone's ( not merely "white liberals") approval?

EDIT: If you have a vested interest behind your question, it makes sense to declare it first...and you have no idea how old I am, do you.. so your ignorant patronage is misplaced, but hardly unexpected.

What do you mean blacks were better off during the apartheid regime?
It is because of your precious previous goverment that the ANC is faced with the daunting task of building clinics and schools all over the country when the white goverment should have yet you have the nerve to say black people were better off during the apartheid era?
Black people did not have any rights and 12 year olds were being shot at and you still continue talking kaak like now!
If you got out of your cocoon and actually went to black communities you would have seen the reality of apartheid and not **** you are talking about!
It it a pity you are not here beside me cause i would so love to whoop your ***!

the fact is that white people in this country have put themselves into the mess that they are in.

i am certain that this country will go the same way as Rhodesia, maybe not soon, but sooner or later.

either we put all this political bullsh!t behind us, and start working together, or we are doomed. yes, i have admitted to being racist, but i believe it's more a case of racism against mediocrity and stupidity, no matter the colour of the skin.

its time we put the past behind us and just start living people.

that, and get a woman or someone of relative intelligence in the presidency.

thabo is a fat cat, and given half the chance, will make bob mugabe look like a boy scout.

Its just Rhodesia, and to a lesser extent Zambia and Kenya all over again. Self determination is wonderful, but requires skills and cultural development that are not currently present in the indigenous culture. Look at India and Pakistan, have they really moved on since the end of colonial rule? No, they still run their tin pot countries on graft and disgracefully discriminatory caste systems.
