A decade ago, they were considered luxury items, but they're quickly becoming necessary.

Except for New Delhi & Bombay, all other cities & towns in India do not have a mass transit or transportation system in place to have people moving from office or their work place to home or the other way round therefore there is a need to have your own vehicle to move around and I do not see the GOI take any concrates step in the budget or otherwise to develop transit systems

For some one who thinks he want to take a ride a car even for 10 meter.. its luxury... and for some one.. who depends on his bike to sell something home to home.. its necessity..

Depends on the circumstances of the person. If someone lives in a big city with alot of public transportation then I guess they don't really need a car. Otherwise, of course a person would need a car to get about.

Now people start to think, oil prices are high. So they opt for diesel cars costing less than 3 lakhs. tata indica like that. they need more mileage per litre of oil.

1st vehicle is necessity.
2nd is luxury.
For many 4th is also necessity.
