I've had a similar issue myself, if I leave the computer on overnight and it goes into Stand-By or Hybernate mode, I'll come back in the morning, and move the mouse, and it will kick back on, but the monitor wont start up again. More than likely it is not your graphics card, no ofense, but you dont sound like you are very familiar with the inner working of a computer (I'm no genius, just know a little) but I'm guessing you are not a real "gamer" type, and just use your computer for web browsing and such, so I doubt that you have a stand alone graphics card, likely, you have a 64mb Integrated, which basicly means your motherboard has the ability to process your graphics because you dont have any high resourse applications that require a better one.
I know there are alot of varying opinions, and people will say I'm stupid for telling you this, but do not have you PC set to Hybernate. Since I assume you are probably running a version of XP, it is simple.
1) Go to your "Start" menu at the lower left of screen
2) Chose "Control Panel"
3) "Chose Power Options" from the "Control Pannel"
4) On the "Power Schemes" tab, you can set your computers Stand-By timer to "Never"
5) On the "Hibernation" tab, you can set it to NOT enable Hibernation.
Beyond this, try not to leave your computer on for long periods of time since it will now not go into Stand By or Hibernation mode. If you plan on being away for a while, just shut it down. but, by doing this, you will tell the computer to not go into Hibernate or Stand By, which will in turn fix or problem if your probalem is the same as mine was. I hope this helps, if your probalem is a different one, try cleaning your connection where the monitor plugs into the the back of the PC. Best thing I have found to use is the eraser of a pencil, but be VERY carful around the pins. Good Luck

"clean it or something" ? I hope he gave you better instructions than that. If not then I hope you weren't charged very much.
Just curious as too how long the computer was working after the technician "fixed" it? Also, is the whole computer restarting or is it just the monitor?
If it's only the monitor than odds are it is either the video card or the monitor. Do you have another monitor you can test to see if the same thing happens with it?
If the whole computer is restarting than it could be a number of different things. I had a problem with my old computer doing random restarts and even turning itself on by itself..., kind of spooky, I used to joke that it was possessed. Most of the time it worked fine but occasionally I had to fight it for an hour before it would behave.
Back to your problem..., assuming you do have a video card then if you or someone you know, knows how to take the card out, spray it with canned air, and blow out the slot then re-seat the card making sure its locked in tight, that might help.

Make sure everything is connected and not loose. Make sure the cable to the graphics card is in nice and tight. Graphics cards do come out of their socket too from heat expansion, push the card back in, make sure it's firmly in place.
Same thing happens to my computer chair, about 2x a year the screws undo themselves. I never turn the chair, just lean back on it, but yet they mysteriously come undone. So check your card and make sure it's seated correctly.
