If Michelangelo were not ever given a block of marble and a chisel or a paint brush, would he have ever become an artist?
He had LOTS of art instruction! ;)

I teach art and I have found that talent has to be developed. A student may "do" perspective, but not understand it and know how to manipulate it for different effects. Another student can ve very creative but never had an opportunity to express this...No "talent" skill wise, but all the ideas.

My kids have no predisposition to creativity or art. They are exposed to it all the time, and hear about it too, but it doesn't seem to be "sticking". They don't have the gene, I guess!

I think both could be true. Creativity can be inherent to a degree, but after that, why not allow for cultivation? In other words, we are born with a certain amount of creativity and we can gain more (or lose some) as we get older and have different experiences, I think. It seems your question is of the same path as the "nature versus nurture" query.

God bless.

I guess creativity is an inherited trait it can also be cultivated.
Like a weight lifter.
One could have a large stature but could not lift the weight that a smaller man could who practiced regularly.
Give the big guy the training and he will come out first.
