Part of the original movie is a true story. The remakes are all bull.

despite common believe, it is NOT based on a true story. The myth that it was a real story was an attempt to enhance the "scary" properties of the moviegoing experience. "leatherface" is very very loosely based on Ed Gein (who never used a chainsaw to kill anyone and is suspected of killing only 2 women, despite his love for necrophilia and the morbid).
"Writer/director Tobe Hooper said the inspiration for the film came from his spotting a display of chainsaws while standing in the hardware section of a crowded store"

It's based on actual events,but don't take the movie to
seriously, plus in this day and age anything is possible.
There's heaps of crazy people in the world and living
in remote small country towns...I wouldn't be surprised
if the police uncovered a crazy,inbred,mutant ,maniac
Axe wielding zombie family killing tourists in the middle of
no where and wearing there skin like a Suit and singing
along to Brittany Spears:- OOPS, I DID IT AGAIN...LOL

You know how in other movies it says based on a true story. Well this is the case in this movie. It is real. They said that he was never caught. =0

yes it's based upon actual events if you go to the special features on the dvd it may give you has real name i can't remeber it right now but you can do a search on the web about the movie and you might get the story behind it too
there are alot of movie that's been coming out based upon actual events

the original one was the best,and yes it is based on a true story it happened in the late sixtys,,the reason why the found out about was cause of the girl got away,,they have actual footage of the scene.
