It's not necessary to have job experience to get an MBA in the U.S., though it usually helps a bit on the applications (unless you have great grades and test scores).

However, I can tell you from first-hand experience that you have a MUCH BETTER CHANCE of landing a good job AFTER getting your MBA if you have work experience. If you don't have it when you start, that's fine... Just realize that you should probably do some good internships (unfortunately, they'll probably be unpaid) while you are getting your MBA.

MBA's look great on the resume, but most employers want job experience as well, just to show that it's not all just book learning. Book learning and job training are NOT the same thing, so that's something you should keep in mind while considering your path.

Good luck!

Many universities insist on it - eg. minimum 3 years experience. I teach MBAs and the classes usually have an average of about 10 years experence.

If anyone joined the class with no experience, they would have considerable trouble understanding the content and the cases. Grads without work experience are always very naive about business and provide childish unworkable solutions.

But then, plenty of the experienced people do that too.

best thing to do is call up their admissions office and ask.
