Neither would be absurd. If you believe in God, then a universe without God would indicate there is no universe and no one would be around to question. If you don't believe in God, then you would never even raise the question to begin with.
In a universe without man, the question isn't a consideration as we aren't here to experience the loss.

neither seem absurd to me at all. throughout most all of the history of the universe there was no man and it is likely that mans stay here is temporary. i suspect that the universe will do fine without us.
there is no real indication that god has ever been present or that his absence would be missed.
