If that's the only PF you've heard, that album does them little justice.

For potential "conversion", you HAVE to turn to their 70s work.

Listen to "Dark Side of The Moon" ALL the way through, at night, lying down, with headphones....

If you like *that* one, try "Wish You Were Here" & "Animals"....

(same conditions)

Pink Floyd is from an era when we listened to the album;getting up only to flip the vinyl over to side two.It WAS about the music.Albums like Dark Side Of The Moon,Wish You Were Here and The Wall are what are referred to as classics. You might like one of those.David Gilmour is respected as a guitarist by his peers and Roger Waters is a very talented songwriter.
People your dads age(like me,I suppose),don't understand the stuff you listen too, either.Does anyone actually play an instrument anymore? Why are the concerts lip-synched and not sung "live"?Why is the emphasis on how many dancers are on stage and costume changes and not on the music?
You asked a question that has been around forever. My grandparents didn't understand Elvis and The Beatles.Their parents didn't get Sinatra. As you get older you will appreciate Pink Floyd as the truly great band that they were, just as your kids will just shake their heads at the stuff you listen to now.

Most Pink Floyd fans, to be honest, don't really like Momentary Lapse of Reason. Try the older stuff, like Dark Side of the Moon and Meddle. If you still don't like it, then Pink Floyd just isn't for you.

I really like the experimental sound of the 1969-71 music.

I'm the other way, I can't work out how anyone wouldn't be amazed at a David Gilmour solo :) Eg On The Turning Away on Momentary Lapse...Or Comfortably Numb from The Wall...Or a cast of 1000s.

Oh well, to each their own. One's genius is another's fungus ;)

Sit with the music quietly, relax and let the music take you on a journey. There is a story behind every album, not just Floyd. listen to the deeper meaning. Also bear in mind your dad grew up with that music and so has an affinity to it. like my sister has to the 80's (I personally can't understand that)

Pink floyd is not car driving music or shake you booty and dance music its sit down quietly and listen to the whole album. It makes sense as a logical whole.

two words David Gilmour! Listen to the guitar lines they are very emotional! specially learning to fly! very minimal technique but lots of soul!

Give it a try. It's a throwback from the 60's acid tripping cult following days.

The fact that people are amazed by them.

If its not your music then so be it. I'm sure you have some cRAP music your daddy don't care for.
