Too many programs running at the same time is the most likely cause for that.

Try these -
1. Please uninstall all/any "un-needed"/free software you downloaded any from the internet and installed.
2. Run disk defrag which would be in Control Panel /Administrative Tools /.. based on your windows version.

Are you setup well with your internet connection ? Cause if your computer is direcly connected (like a phone dialup) to the Internet and there is no single software-firewall, home firewall/router, someone on the internet could be accessing your PC and using it !!!

Hope you did`nt catch a virus. Try to use a free and trustworthy "virus scanner" could be from a friend, just to make sure your PC is not currently infected.

Scan again and see if the problems have re-installed themselves. If they have, switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

You need all these anti spyware programs;
http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and

the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks

and other malicious changes to your browser.

Plus;
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware

And these are useful utilities;

first you have to look to the right bottom corner of your screen (there where the clock is) and check what programme are auto running with shutting on your computer. If there is too much of them u have to click on start, then clic (I don't now how is it in english) that icon below help, and write regedit. Then click EDIT and FIND. Write "runo" and click F3 to time when on the list of folders will mark "RunOnce" folder. Open it and then delete the things that u don't want to open auto while your computer shutts on.

The next thing you need to do is to clean your registry. There are many programmes to do it. One of them is RegSupreme 1.2 (about 500Mb), or Registry Mechanic 5 (about 8Mb). I don't know any of them but I think they are easy to work with.

The other thing to do is to scan your computer. You can download for example AVG internet security which is I think free, and then scan ur computer.

If it does't work reinstall your Windows (i think u have one)
You can also clean your hard disc and delete programs you don't usually use.

I hope your computer will work faster after it.

Run a health check on your PC It's just possible that spybot did not remove those things.

You probably had a virus attack the previous night. Many of these things don't take effect till you reboot the PC, and that's why its slow this morning.

Best things a virus scan.

Nine times out of ten it is MSN messenger. Hate that sucker. Download Winpatrol and run it to see what loads in start up. Disable what you don't need (like MSN). You can still use it later. Gotta love Scotty the watch dog !

did you install any new programs? if no, restoring does not help solving the problem, then, you may try to download softwares like rambooster. it may help, also, check the list of start up programs and disable some programs that work in the background and you really dont need to use them

Hope i helped

Try a disc clean and get rid of all the temp files. You can do that from tools or in control panel.
