on a laptop with 2 25gb hardrives and 1gb of ram it runs windows xp media center at the moment will it be able to run vista?

No, you need at least a 40gb hard disc and at least 15gb free to install Vista, go to the Microsoft web site and download "Vista upgrade adviser" this will tell you what you need and if you computer is compatible

yes it will run as u have minimun requirments i.e.
1gb ram and 225gb of hdd,
