The best thing that you can do is research the two destinations on the Narional Tourism website for Belgium , which has good information regarding Ghent , Bruxelles and the rest of Belgium. It is in multiple languages and I have provided you with a link to access it.

Also, it is important that you stay somewhere which is central to the areas that you will spend most time in. Your time is very brief. So I have provided you with a link to a couple of reputable accommodation directories, which may help.

Good luck with your travels:

Brussels: start with City Tour, then Grand Place and center (Manneken Pis and gobelins and lace and chocolate shops) (Petite Rue des Bouchers), (Try mussels and french fries) -Brussels Museum -Central Park and Royal Palace (if open) Avenue Louise (luxury shopping), Rue Neuve (Malls- normal shopping) (Try Brussels waffles) Atomium and Mini Europe
If in April: the Royal Hothouses in Laeken
Gent : start with boat tour, then Korenmarkt, Gravensteen (Dukes medieval Palace), St Baafs kathedraal and inside The world famous painting The adoration of the Lamb Gods by the brothers Van Eyck

But you forgot the Belgian Star destination at 20 minutes from Gent: Brugge (Bruges): lace, canals, medieval mansions, the chapel of the Holy Blood, lace making schools;the Begijnhof (Beguinage) tours on the canals, all the medieval buildings illumated: IT IS A MUST.

Have a nice stay in my country!!
